Partner Update March 12, 2018

Anne StandleyBlog

Thank you for your enthusiastic support of our new venture to support public radio’s role in connecting musicians, performers, and artists with the audiences who enjoy and support their music. More than 50 partners have signed up to support the Alliance and we continue to grow!

If you know a fellow public radio music station who should be a part of our organization, please encourage them to sign up at https://noncommusic.org/partner-signup/ (password: noncom18).

Mark your calendars for May 15th Launch
The team is working diligently to complete the digital headquarters for the noncomMUSIC Alliance. Our official launch will be the afternoon of May 15, 2018 at the opening of the 18th Annual NON-COMMvention in Philadelphia. Early registration is now open and hotels are taking reservations.

Please contact Mike Riksen if you are unable to attend in-person, but would like to be part of our event so we can include you in our web conference.

SXSW – Music Cities Think Tank
Mike Riksen will be attending SXSW this week to discuss the work of the Alliance during a special session for Music Cities Think Tank, sponsored by the newly formed Music Policy Forum. He’ll be joined by Roger LaMay of WXPN, and Scott Bell of KEXP.

Congressional Legislative Activity
Several Members of Congress continue to press ahead with legislation to change aspects of the Copyright Act, including the Music Modernization Act and the Classics Act. We’re digging deeply into each to determine what, if any impact, these proposals may have on public radio music stations.

We have also begun an aggressive meeting schedule with congressional staff to raise the level of understanding of public radio’s role in music. To help us with these conversations, we’ll be producing collateral and infographics that we will share the coming weeks to help you promote your station and public radio music.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks as activities unfold. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Mike Riksen, Joni Lupovitz or Anne Standley with suggestions or questions.
